Eat Right by Cleaning Out Your Pantry

Your pantry is a treasure trove of delicious yet sinful food which could make you forget you are on a strictly healthy diet, which is why you need to clean it out.

There is no easy way to say this; but just like getting off a band-aid, you must do it quickly and drastically.

Once you have your pantry completely stripped, you can now stock up on foods which complement your diet. Here are some suggestions:

Avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and trans fat stamped on them. Read all labels carefully and research if you must. Explore the organic section of your supermarket and spend time learning about healthier food alternatives. Load up on healthy oils, herbs and other condiments which will add flavour to your food.

Choose canned goods which are low salt or light versions of your favorites. You can also go as far as planting vegetables and bottling them. If you must stock up on “carbs”, better make sure you choose whole wheat pasta and brown rice.

Go all out when it comes to nuts and seeds. They make healthier snack alternatives and are high in antioxidants as well. Load up on walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and natural peanut butter.

Buy junk food in small portions. If you are in need of some junk food fix, be sure to buy in small bags of chips. True, the ones which come in bigger bags may be a lot cheaper but you should admit to yourself that it is hard to stay away from the stuff and as long as there are some more left in the pantry, you are sure to go back for more.

Spotlight healthy food. This way you only see the good stuff each time you open your pantry. Better yet, arrange the healthier choices at the cupboard which is directly in front of your eyes so you will never miss them. For fruits like apples and bananas, it would be a good idea to display them on countertops where they will be highly visible.

Do not be content with just cleaning out your pantry. Be sure to take the same stand with your refrigerator. Clean it out and make sure you throw away unhealthy foods and stock up on the following:

Dark chocolates
Eggs or egg substitutes
Skim milk
Parmesan or cheddar cheese
Tofus
Sour cream
Fresh orange juice
Yogurt
Fruits and vegetables
Frozen lean meat like fish and chicken
Frozen yogurt or low fat vanilla ice cream

Ridding your pantry and refrigerator of unhealthy foods is certainly a step into the right direction. You will find that doing so will leave you with no choice but to choose and eat healthy.
